After 25 years in Hayes Valley, watering hole Place Pigalle bid farewell to its neighborhood this weekend.

But when one door closes, another opens. Or, in the case of New Parish Entertainment Group — the team behind Brick & Mortar Music Hall in the Mission, Oakland’s Rock Steady, Place Pigalle in Hayes Valley, among others — it’s more like several new doors open.

La Movida.

La Movida in the Mission.

While the group has finally said so long to their beleaguered Hayes Valley location, they’re not wasting any time on getting their next projects up and running.

According to New Parish managing partner Jason Perkins, today (Monday, 5/11), the group is set to take possession of 24th Street wine bar, La Movida, and plan to have things up and running as soon as Wednesday (5/13).

“For ten years, I’ve wanted to have a bar on this street,” says Perkins of  the new 24th Street space. “It’s part of the Mission I walk with my kids every weekend.”

At this point, don’t don’t expect too many big changes in the wine bar space. While the entire Place Pigalle staff will make the transition to La Movida, Perkins plans to keep the La Movida name for the time being. The menu and decor will change in June.

The group will spend the next few months getting a feel for the neighborhood and take a “more organic approach as to how the bar will evolve,” though there are plans to eventually serve lunch and weekend brunch. Another carry over from Place Pigalle: Samantha Solano, who was in charge of the bar’s local art program will continue her work with local artists in the new Mission location.

Also on the horizon, look for the group’s forthcoming project, The Crafty Fox, a gastropub opening in the former Woodward’s Garden space at Mission and Duboce in early June.

After that, Perkins is planning to completely redo the Brick & Mortar, directly next door from the Crafty Fox. Still further down the line, Perkins is working with an economic development group in the Excelsior to create a to-be-determined mixed use project in that neighborhood.

“We’re not just bar owners,” says Perkins, “We’re just a bunch of people who like to build stuff.”

As far as Place Pigalle — for now, the name and concept will go into retirement until Perkins and his team find the right space and vibe to bring it back.

Yet another future project for Perkins and his crew to look forward to building together.
