Hayes Valley gets its watering hole back today with the reopening of Place Pigalle. Boasting a noticeable renovation (the couches and pool table are still there), it’s now under the management of new owners Michael O’Connor (The Independent) and Jason Perkins, the same duo that recently took over the ill-fated Coda/Butterfly space on Mission and flipped it into Brick & Mortar.
Running the show at both places is bar manager Barry Smythe, who comes from Bourbon & Branch sister bar Swig. At Place Pigalle, he’s hoping to focus the beer/wine-only selection on smaller boutique breweries.
So Smythe will be there slinging drinks when Place Pigalle opens tonight, but despite the current internet buzz, Charlie Hallowell will certainly not be serving his food tonight. The chef-owner of Pizzaiolo and Boot & Shoe says even though he’s pals with O’Connor, there’s no finalization of their talks to do food at Place Pigalle. That said, it’s certainly a possibility down the lines. Hallowell muses that they’ll end up getting some sort of deal done — probably, hopefully — and there’s a chance he will end up doing some sort of food at either Place Pigalle or Brick & Mortar.
Open nightly this week; daytime hours slated to start next week.

Update 5/26: Post updated to correct that Smythe worked at Swig, not Bourbon & Branch.
